The modern workplace

The modern workplace

The modern workplace needs to shift. Traditional training methods of one size fits all does not work anymore. This might include starter inductions on security around data or equality and diversity. I remember starting a job and there was no induction but straight into the job, I am surprised I survived in that job as long as I did but if the whole team is draining including management, who has time to reflect on what training looks like for individiual needs. For example, I am an introvert by nature and therefore I respond well to reflecting and absorbing information as opposed to thinking quickly. Sometimes, in a large organisation, these traits get overlooked for a variety of reasons but the obvious being that larger personalities may dominate the room. I think training of any kind needs to have the element of 'why'. Why is data security important when protecting customer information for example? Or, why is it important to ensure that meetings can be moved to meet the needs of those staff who pray for religious reasons. It is hard in traditional face to face or remote training environments on ensuring that staff understand these aspects and therefore, it may help companies to take time prior to hiring staff on understanding what their mission is and then figuring out how they can help their staff member do their best job. I think staff CPD should be implemented from day 1 and not 6 months after the role when the staff member is burnt out and ready to walk out?
