Our most recent client is a National and European building firm who supply building equipment and services. In addition to their UK operation, they also export and supply equipment and services globally. As the company has been expanding they were looking to set up a new site in Southern England, therefore contacted Puffin Solutions for planning and design.

Project Requirement: New office and warehouse build
Timescales were very tight as our client needed the works undertaken quickly and professionally so they could start trading straight away. The client needed a partner that had the experience in decommissioning hardware, providing logistics and Structured cabling services both Voice and Data for there new Unit which included open warehouse space and offices.

Project Scope
A key driver to the project was to minimise the impact on existing service levels to both internal and external customers. As a result, Puffin Solutions worked with the client to produce a phased programme of works where critical clusters of cabling and associated network cabling and racking were moved and re-installed in a single period of time, making sure that this time period was as short as possible. The scope also included a new cabinet, PDU units, and Cat6 double data sockets for both Voice and Data, new Dado trunking and Electrical Sockets. Finally, any rubbish relating to the move was removed from the site and disposed of in line with both the clients and Puffins environmental policies.

Challenges of the project
The key challenge was minimising the interruption to service levels. To ensure this, it was essential to make sure that the install happened over the shortest period of time. It was also necessary to ensure the cable audits were done thoroughly to ensure the original connectivity was duplicated at the new location and installed to plan.

Feedback from client
I went and took a look on Thursday and am very happy with the works completed. The project was achieved with a seamless transition from beginning to end.

Special Requirements
Puffin Solution provides a cabinet tidy service, which for this specific client included tidying their current comms cabinet, by offering a new labelling system for easy identification and a nicer look. We also sorted through the cables allowing for better cable management in the future.

Project Overview
Due to the tight window of time provided by the client, it was imperative the Puffin Solutions team had a plan. Our engineers spend the day working in the comms area of the business to ensure all old or unwanted cables had been removed. The team also worked at re-patching new colour coded cables which allows those in the business to easily identify what they are and where they belong. Our team also ran through all the cabling with the business owner, so they know exactly what is what for easier cable management.

COMMERCIAL CCTV INSTALLATION

About The Project
Customers Requirements: Our most recent client contacted Puffin Solutions Ltd to replace their existing, analogue CCTV system.
What Was Provided: Puffin provided a top of the range scalable, IP based CCTV solution.

Special Requirements
The new solution provided cover to the main plant; however our client had multiple sites across the UK, so the solution we provided had to include other sites at a later date.

Project Overview
The Cameras was installed externally to cover key access points to the building. In addition to the external cameras, cameras were installed to provide coverage of the goods in/out area within the production facility where there are four large bays. Each of these bays had two cameras installed both pointing down on the bay from both directions.

In total Puffin installed 17 cameras with 8 of the cameras providing a long-distance capability and the other nine cameras being a dome design camera.

The CCTV controller for the unit was installed in the comms room where it could not be tampered with.

It was important to our customer that the solution we provided was accessible via the network with different permission levels set up to restrict access to the system and then restrict certain users to specific cameras.

The CCTV solution was connected to the companies network but also accessible by authorised users to view all or some of the cameras depending on the privileges configured to that user. It was also important to our customer that these images could be viewed via mobile phones, PC’s, Laptops from anywhere in the world.

The standalone NVR Puffin installed was a new generation of LILIN professional NVR series. The NVR supported Ultra HD (4K) video recording of up to 32 channels.

The NVR also supports network redundancy and is able to prevent losing videos in case of a switch failure. Along with its low power consumption and all-in-one sleek design, the NVR provided users with a simple, affordable yet professional solution for megapixel surveillance in the mainstream market.

Puffin Solutions completed the installation within five days working alongside a busy and mainstream production line and caused no disruptions to the normal busy working day.

The CCTV solution scoped and provided by Puffin Solutions was done very professionally, and knowing what we would expect from end to end through the process was valuable. We were happy with the overall quality of the installation, and the communications provided throughout which was a pleasure and helped to expedite the whole process. Our management are very happy with the camera system, especially regarding how we can view and obtain the footage we need quite easily. We are thankful to Puffin for providing a great, scalable and user-friendly solution.
