Why this year's budget doesn't matter - yes, really!

Why this year's budget doesn't matter -…

Okay, its UK budget time. Sajid Javid has buckled under the pressure but the whole UK is working up to feverish pitch for the 11th March.

Except it doesn’t matter. Not a bit.

If you’re doing certain things (like selling a business and might be a victim of Entrepreneurs’ Relief changes) then it’s important and big.

But that’s probably not you and not your business.

Every day entrepreneurship is knowing your idea inside out, having tested the value prop, knowing what deals you can afford to do, the discounts or payment terms you can get away with.

Every day business management (as a CEO, CFO, divisional head, project manager, tradesperson, small business owner) is knowing your business inside out; the people, the numbers, the operation. And what business levers do what.

And the way that smart entrepreneurs and business owners do that is in two parts:

  • Good quality business planning. This defines what’s important, what to improve, and what doesn’t matter (and what doesn’t matter, matters if you’re busy) – the levers.
  • Good quality management accounts. This shows what’s happening; what’s going well (do more of it) and badly (fix it). Suddenly those levers look useful….

If your business depends on the budget then let’s see how we can make it more resilient.

If your not clear on levers and when to pull them, let’s have a chat about how your finance team could be your competitive advantage.

Find out more about how we can help your business succeed.
