What Search Engine Optimisation is all about ?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a
website in a web search engine's unpaid results - often referred to as "natural" or
"organic" results. In general, the earlier and more frequently a website appears in
the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's
users, and these visitors can be converted into customers.
Search engines reward pages with the right combination of ranking factors or
"signals". SEO is about ensuring the content on your website generates the right
type of signals.

On-Page Optimization Elements:

1.     QUALITY: Well written pages that have substantial amount of quality
content.
  2.     RESEARCH: Performing a research on the keywords people may use to find
your content.
3.    WORDS: Making sure that the pages use words & phrases you hope they'll
be found for.
4.    ENGAGE: Checking whether visitors spend time reading or 'bounce' away
quickly.
5.    FRESHNESS: Creating pages that are fresh & about 'hot' topics.

6.    TITLES: Writing HTML title tags that contain keywords relevant to page
topics.
7.    DESCRIPTIONS: Writing meta description tags that describe what pages are about.
8.    HEADERS: Writing headings and sub-headings using header tags with
relevant keywords.
9.    CRAWL: Analyzing whether search engines can easily 'crawl' pages on your
website.
10. SPEED: Tuning the website loading speed.
11. URLs: Writing short URLs using keywords that are meaningful to page
topics.

 Off-Page Optimization Elements:

 1.    QUALITY: Building links from trusted and respected web sites.
2.    TEXT: Making sure that the links pointing at pages use words you hope
they'll be found for.
3.    NUMBER: Building as many links as possible. The more, the better.
4.    REPUTATION: Getting respectful entities on social networks to share your
content.
5.    SHARES: Increasing the number of entities that share your content on
social network.
6.    THIN: Checking if content is 'thin' or 'shallow' and lacking substance.
7.    STUFFING: Making sure that the pages don't excessively use words you want
them to be found for.
8.    HIDDEN: Checking if colors or design of the web site 'hide' words you want
pages of your web site to be found for.
9.    CLOAKING: Checking if you show search engines different pages than
humans.
