Google is sending notifications via email and Webmaster Tools to sites with mobile usability issues which are supposed to be mobile friendly. This is the first time Google is sending mass notification warnings to these webmasters and it seems the testing around mobile ranking might be coming into affect in the near future.

My research shows that 72% of UK websites are not yet optimised for smartphones and tablets, so will drop in the ranking for smartphone users. As Google has 88% of UK search of which 44% is from mobile devices and increasing, this has major impacts for UK businesses.

It is amusing to watch thousands of Pounds being spent on UK TV advertising for building websites, which is a product that is outdated and not integrated with the rapidly changing social media landscape. I am using Cayenne which is the "next generation single platform social website" which works across all devices and is mobile optimised. We are publicly launching Cayenne in March and founding members who join before hand will qualify for a 40% discount on Pro and Business accounts. Personal accounts are free and always will be :-)

Most webmasters should have received an email from Google, and if not here is a copy of the "Fix mobile usability issues found on http://www..." email that several of my clients have received.
