• Stop counting and start valuing.

There are numerous things we can't count that are intrinsically valuable; friendship, honour, integrity, attitude.

Yet counting things of no value seems to be part of the human condition: counting sheep, counting steps as we walk, the minutes between home and work, the days before Christmas. We even have expressions like, "it's a numbers game".

But remember, your career isn't a numbers game, it's a people game: the people in your network are your most valuable asset - so don't use them, help them, support them, value them.

I'll give you an analogy. If you were given a rose bush for your garden, 'instant gratification' would say 'cut off the roses to make a beautiful display for the lounge' whereas 'future planning' would say 'nurture, water and feed it to produce something of lasting value well into the future'. Give and you are much more likely to receive. #proteuscareermanagement
