• "If I were you".

    Whenever you give voice to a problem and seek advice, be very careful, be very circumspect, if someone includes the phrase "If I were you" in the solution or opinion they offer.


    What they are really saying is, "If I were you and I had your problem this is what I'd do." But they are not you, they don't have your personality style, your background, your qualifications, your transferable skills, your drivers: they may even have different values.


    Unless they are a professional in the field on which they are offering advice, their view will be subjective: they are looking at YOUR problem through THEIR personality spectacles.  Think about it: you wouldn't ask your dentist friend for legal advice.  Always seek your advice from an appropriate professional. #proteuscareermanagement
