"If I were you....."

Remember that anyone who starts to give you advice with the phrase, "If I were you …", is not going to give you the best advice unless they are a professional in that field.

They are really saying, "If I had your problem, this is what I'd do." But they are not you: different values, personality, drivers, ethics. They are really looking at your problem through their own personality spectacles.

Unless the person recognises this and acts accordingly with high emotional intelligence, you won't be getting 'best advice'.

It's time to consult your coach or mastermind group - and if you haven't got one, it's time to get one!
