Big plans or little plans? That is the question!
Machiavelli told us to "Make no small plans for they have no power to stir the soul." However, I'm not sure I agree with Machiavelli.
If we think about our careers, as in all walks of life, if we set our sights too high it becomes demotivating because the thought, "I'll never be able to do that," dominates; so we tend to give up without even seriously giving it a go.
Similarly if our sights are too low, "That's so easy it can wait until tomorrow," and again it doesn't get done.
The trick is to find a goal that just stretches us - and the best way to do that for big goals is to break them down into smaller steps that still motivate us - yes, in my view, small plans can stir the soul!
