• Employee loyalty is earned not demanded

Beware of the line manager who tells you what to do.  Better the one who invites and demonstrates, but best is the leader who is inclusive and who inspires you to do things by giving you a reason why.

There are directors, managers, line managers, supervisors, all sorts of names for those who are supposed to lead others.  But what are the obligations of leadership?

The leader's first obligation to those whom they lead is to understand their values, beliefs, personality styles, drivers and character traits.

Their second obligation is then to create a working environment and a communication style that is conducive to each individual's wellbeing.

Think about the people in your own organisation, including yourself: who earns loyalty and who demands it?
