On 16th December 2021, the Government opened a consultation on disability in the workplace for companies larger than 250 employees.

This consultation closes on 8th April 2022 and a response due to be published by the 17th June 2022.

This consultation is intended to ensure inclusive workplaces, increase opportunities for those with disabilities, and tackle the disability employment gap.

This stands as an important baseline for all employers to assess their inclusive practice and recruitment for disabled people regardless of being eligible to report to the consultation.

The response from this consultation will be used to build on:

  • Current reporting practices and what works well.
  • A case for, and against, implementing a mandatory reporting procedure.
  • How mandatory reporting might be implemented in practice.
  • If there are alternative approaches to be taken to enhance transparent and increase inclusive practices.

Employers are highly encouraged to follow the voluntary disability reporting framework (which helps record information on disability, mental health, and wellbeing within the workplace.

This is a beneficial and massive step towards creating an inclusive work environment.

Let's make sure career goals, and working is accessible to everyone.
