Wherever and however you earn your living, your working life is governed by the written word.
Companies set up all sorts of written systems to make their operations more successful: annual targets, budgets, mission statements, meeting minutes, brand definitions, action points, the list goes on.
The closest most of us ever get to this in our own lives is to spend 6 months planning a 2 week holiday, yet we don't even spend 2 weeks planning what we're going to do with the rest of our lives let alone our careers.
The importance of a written career objective is further supported by Dr. Gail Matthews whose research at Dominican University in California found that people who have a written goal, written action commitments and who hold themselves accountable to a friend, a mentor or a coach and send that person weekly progress reports are 77 percent more likely to achieve their goals than those who only have mental goals.
Astounding but true!
Perhaps it's time to put some serious (written) thought into your future and in particular into the future of your career!
