Everyone tells you it’s NOT ok to be an annoyed manager, but nobody supports you through the difficulties of managing all these personalities.

So, here’s a helping hand;

What you want to say vs what you should say instead.

(And trust me, the last one might seem funny, but it’s something I’ve heard before).

“You’re not listening, are you?” ⮕ “I want to make sure I have your undivided attention before I continue”.

“You don’t seem to get along with anyone” ⮕ “I’ve seen some difficulties in adjusting, can we discuss the difficulties you might eh facing”

“This is the most appalling presentation I’ve seen” ⮕ “I’ve seen a clear difference in your output, let’s discuss why this may be”

“Oh shut ** and let me finish talking” ⮕ “we both will have a fair opportunity to express our concerns. I’ll go first”

“Youre too quiet at work” ⮕ “I’d love to check up on you, I’ve noticed you’re quieter than unusual, would you like to chat?”

“You’re always off sick” ⮕ TELL HR AT THIS POINT

“There is a concern around body odour and it’s affecting others” ⮕ AGAIN, CONSULT HR, don’t attempt to have this conversation on your own.

Saying the right things to promote the outcome that you want is a core skill that managers should have, but sadly it’s not a skill that we naturally possess. Therefore, it is vital to train leadership and management to avoid sticky situations that could be lawfully very risky.

We have to developed a quick two minute test that looks at four core competences of a manager. Take the free test to understand how you scored and adetailed report provided at the en! There’s a surprise in the report for you, plus plenty of resources and tools for you to try today :)
