Self –Reflection and Learning

Being fully engaged and committed is a self-learning and life-long learning experience that creates opportunity. To reflect upon our own personal journey, with integrity and honesty places us in a position of alignment and creates authentic power of opportunity. This requires us to become connected to ourselves and others from a base level of honesty and with a willingness to learn and value the fullness of engagement in life and all it has to offer. A process of reflection and learning has value that integrates to our overall purpose and our very direction of travel, socially and personally, inspiring decisions and options.

If we are discerning, we will explore and examine our journey so far in the broadest context possible. By adopting an enquiring approach that sets aside personal ego, and requests the input of others, with the purpose of adding value and gaining insight for further direction. This takes courage, in recognising the importance of people and their contribution, as well as self-reflecting on those areas in our lives when we have felt that our achievements are not what we wanted to achieve, or what we expected. We rarely learn our greatest most valuable lessons in those times when everything is good; our most valuable experience comes from our challenges.

To reflect is to question:

  • What have we learnt, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually and physically about our being?
  • How have we learnt, are there any outdated repeated patterns or challenges?
  • Where/when were we low in productivity or energy, what were the reasons?
  • Are there any blockages in our lives or our business?
  • When/how can we use this learning to support our future and that of others in a positive way?
  • Can we identify our decisions, or our lack of reflection to the context of social or personalised power?

The definition of socialised or personal power:

High in socialised power

Motivation –

Make a value based contribution

Help other people, serve others

Admire the world for what it is

Make people laugh & smile

Have fun

High in personalized power

Motivation-

Convince others that I am right

Achieve my daily goals

Belittle those who correct me

Hog the limelight

Think positively

Being an authentic person, or organisation, requires some reflection. In recognition of our path so far, our effect on other people, situations, business or customers that enables us to make more value based improvements and decisions.

How is your leadership and personal engagement encouraging you and those around you to make a greater contribution?
