Brookson is delighted to announce that it is now authorised as an ACA Training Employer.
With effect from July 19th 2013, Brookson is now authorised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) to provide training for the ACA, the qualification which is required to become a chartered accountant.
This means that the firm now belongs to a global group of over 2,850 organisations of different sizes who can offer employees this prestigious opportunity. Indeed, ACA Training Employers work in sectors which are not limited to accountancy - they include public sector bodies, as well as business and commerce.

ACA is one of the most advanced learning and development programmes available. A total of 15 integrated components at different levels range across finance and business as well as accountancy, to build the knowledge and skills needed to work for a variety of companies in different fields. Every component of the qualification is mandatory to ensure that employees can boast a consistent level of knowledge and skills in all the key areas of the profession. High percentages of students pass their exams on the first attempt, demonstrating the calibre of the professionals taking the course.
The qualification has become popular over the years as the options for teaching and learning have become more diverse. At the moment, trainees can take their tuition in a classroom setting or take part in distance or online learning while they are acquiring all the experience they need to succeed.
Students are expected to complete 450 days of practical work experience with a Training Employer, which can take anywhere from three to five years. Throughout the training period, Brookson will carry out bi-annual reviews to keep track of students’ progress and identify any areas where they will need extra support.
To become and remain a Training Employer for ACA, Brookson has to consistently satisfy ICAEW’s training standards, which echo best practice for all organisations. ICAEW expects all Training Employers to provide an appropriate training environment where students receive the right support and supervision, as well as training in the all-important ethics of the profession. Above all, they are expected to be committed to supporting students and to act with professionalism.
Students can move towards training for the ACA from a range of starting points. Trainees can be accepted whether they are university graduates or hold A-level standard qualifications. In addition, any students who have already undertaken another finance qualification, such as ICAEW’s own Certificate in Finance Accounting and Business (CFAB), can apply to train and may be awarded credit or exemptions depending on their background. This flexibility will give Brookson the freedom to recruit the best candidates to train as chartered accountants.
