The subject of embracing personal empowerment finds its way into almost every conversation I have with my clients. Not surprising really, given the extent to which we as individuals, families, communities, and businesses may be feeling disempowered by World events. However, that would serve to externalise the issue. Without wishing in any way to discount the heavy impact that external factors, other people, and our diverse backgrounds, have on the way we exist in the World, there is still much we can do ourselves by empowering from within.
Two definitions of empowerment attract my attention:
On first reading, the first statement implies to me that it is something given to us by another, whilst the second feels more like an internal evolutionary process. It occurs to me that empowerment comes with permission to act, to feel, to speak, to be. Without that permission we feel a void in realising our potential and fill it with sometimes unhelpful behaviours or live and work to survive rather than thrive.
I see, through working with a broad spectrum of my clients, how, as a coach, creating a compassionate space and developing a close and trusted professional relationship, creates awareness, opens possibilities, and ultimately leads to increased agency and confidence. The key to unlocking that empowerment is often to give oneself permission. Sounds simple? Maybe, but it is often the hardest thing to do on your own and a supportive coaching partner can, and does, give that extra encouragement or courage to own one’s own power with humility and integrity.
If you are inspired by this article to give yourself permission to seize your own power, that’s great. I am delighted – go do it! If you are less confident and are curious about how a coach can support you with it, then please do get in touch. Equally, you may have someone in your business for whom owning their own power to act would be good for them and for your business.
My passion is in supporting you to fulfil your potential and what you aspire for yourself. Our initial conversation is free and without obligation. I would love to hear from you.
