The focus appears to be firmly on the energy suppliers as to why they have increased energy prices.
A potential increase from 5 to 20% seems to have missed the headlines because of a plan layed down by the European Commission and the following principles:
Abolition of those reduce reates which constitute an obstacle to the proper functioning of the internal market.
Abolition of reduced rates on goods and services whose consumption is discouraged by other EU policies. This could notably be the case for goods and services harmful to the environment, health and welfare.
Similare goods and services should be subject to the same VAT rates and progress in technology should be taken into account in this respect, so that the challenge of convergence between the on-line and the phisical environment is addressed.
A consultation is in progress, not one contribution form a supplier, consumer group not even OFGEM!
So it would appear inevitable that the increase will go ahead because little or no counter argument is being put forward.

So if you think this is a bad thing, tell your MP and MEP. If you don't tell them they think nobody's interested and there's no votes in it.
