WORK QUICKER, BETTER & REDUCE WORK STRESS

The reason I started practicing yoga was initially, like many people, for relaxation - some relief after a hectic day at work.  It became like a mini daily holiday; time out to process, reconnect and rinse out the day. I always left the studio feeling calm, relaxed & reset, this probably explains why the studios are always so busy on a Monday evening!  I definitely felt more relaxed but I was also surprised by how much my performance improved at work. My concentration & focus increased, which meant my days were more efficient & productive,  meaning less late nights in the office.

WHAT THE RESEARCHERS ARE SAYING…

The connection between yoga practice & mental well-being is well documented & scientists are digging deeper into how yoga affects us mentally & physically.

researchers from University of Illinois found that after a yoga class, practitioners were able to complete mental challenges faster than they did after going for a jog or walk.

IMPROVE PRODUCTIVITY & MORALE…

More & more companies are offering yoga & meditation to employees, including Ford, Google, Goldman Sachs & Aetna.   New York Times writer David Gelles reports on the benefits yoga & meditation had on the business Aetna. It estimates a saving of $2,000 (£1,475) a head in healthcare costs and a gain of $3,000 a head in productivity as a result.

 Employees felt less stressed, were sleeping better & felt a reduction in pain. Also participants gained on average 62 minutes per week of productivity, which Aetna estimates is worth $3,000 per employee per year. 

Businesses are using meditation & yoga within their firms, as employees are more present minded, less prone to make rash decisions,  and generally nicer people to work with.
